One more pair of socks finished in 2013. I ended up finishing nine pairs, so four shy of my goal to knit thirteen pairs in 2013. Still, that's nine more pairs in the world, keeping toes toasty. These are Cristi H. Brockway's Breaking Hearts Socks. The yarn is Barking Dog Yarns Sirius in the Lyrical colorway. Here is a link to enable you, if you are so inclined.
The pattern calls for a twisted garter cast-on, which I skipped. It makes the cuff of the sock look really finished, but I was afraid that the ridge formed by this cast-on would annoy me. I knit a regular 1x1 ribbed cuff instead.
The pattern also calls for the gusset decreases to occur on the sole of the sock.

No, your eyes do not deceive you. The socks do not match. The gusset decreases in the sock on the left are the ones called for in the pattern. The ones on the right are the way I normally knit socks.
Sigh.
While I most definitely wouldn't call this a sock fail, I am really annoyed that I didn't refer to the pattern on the second sock. No one will see the decreases when the socks are on my feet, but I am afraid the socks will feel different. So afraid, in fact, that I have yet to try them on.
Here's to more prolific and more careful sock knitting in 2014!
